Pink on Pink

Today I'm joining  all the Pinkies at Beverly's How Sweet the Sound for the first time in a long while. I've always enjoyed seeing the lovely pink posts each Saturday. I haven't joined in more often because I'm too disorganized to sign up on time for the email links. When I heard Beverly was switching to the linky tool I knew I'd have a better chance to sneak in a post at the last minute! That's right, I'm a pink procrastinator!  So I hopped over to Beverly's tonight to grab her link, only to learn we're supposed to post a holiday recipe. Now, if I had my act together earlier I would have known that. But you're probably lucky I didn't because I'm really not much of a cook anyway!  So without further ado I give you...

A Pink Pop-quiz!

What kind of ornaments should be used on a pink Christmas tree?

Concentrate, this is really serious!*

Pink velvet balls? Good answer!

Pink ponies with packages? Yes!

Pink snowmen? Absolutely!

Ha! Gottcha!  This one is too heavy for the branches!

We'll just wrap this sweet package up and put her under the tree!

My daughter and my new niece
say you all get a pink star for your answers
and for putting up with my verbose introduction to this post!
They also wish you a Merry Christmas
from the bottom of their little pink hearts!

Please click on the link at the top to visit Beverly and see what all the pink lovers are sharing!

*I just have to add this little disclaimer. I don't usually dress my daughter in orange t-shirts over red and blue snowmen but she chose this outfit this morning for a PACIFIC club Christmas party at school. The club shirt is orange and, well, she wanted to be festive too!

In case you're wondering the PACIFIC club is:

Pals (regular students who assist in the special ed classes)
And
Challenged
Individuals having

Pink Saturday ~ Vintage Pupcakes

You may remember a while back when I showed you these great vintage candles holders that came from the attic. I knew I wanted a special way to display them. Darling Allison at A Little Shabby Always Chic showed us her wonderful cupcakes and I knew it was the perfect way to showcase these special pups. She did a tutorial showing how to make the cupcakes here.

Now it turned out pink was the perfect color to go with the soft pastels of the thirties so naturally I wanted to share this with Beverly and all you other ladies with a pink attitude. You can visit her and see all the other participants at How Sweet the Sound by clicking her button below.

The finished product.

Inspiration

Vintage Candles

Vintage table cloths I bought at an estate sale last weekend for $3 total.

I found some vintage desert plates to display the cupcakes on. The 4 inch doilies were just the right size for a desert plate that measured about 6 1/2 inches across. I used cool melt glue to attach everything to keep it all from sliding off too easily.

I used 4 in. diameter balls. I cut them in half then trimmed a little off all the way around the top at a 45 degree angle to give me the shape I wanted. I also found the big cupcake/muffin papers in the perfect colors but had to buy them in a package with the tins to cook them in.

Mmmm, frosting!

Some people have said they mix paint into the spackle. Others paint in on top with a brush. I had some pink spray paint so I tried it and really liked it. I was amazed at how real the frosting looks .

So on that pink note I guess I'm done for this Pink Saturday. Don't forget to click on Beverly's button back up at the top. We appreciate all the hard work she does setting up those links!

Pink Saturday ~ A Riot of Pink Roses

Today I'm joining Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for my first Pink Saturday. I'm posting a bit early because I've got a sick child and I'm not sure if I'll have a chance to post later. I don't want to miss it like I did last week! LOL! Please click on the photo to join Beverly for all the wonderful pinkness!

Each spring, for about three weeks, there is a riot of roses in our yard. Two old, climbing, rose bushes burst out with hundreds of raucous pink blooms, taking over the whole scene. One has become part of the structure of the old abandoned wash house, busting through windows and wrapping around the door frame. The branches literally hold up the side of the building against the weight of the roses rampaging over the top and into nearby trees.

An adjacent fence barely contains the masses. It was made from scraps by the neighbor and includes many posts made of railroad ties. Evidently he knew the assault was coming. It stands strong...for now.

There is nothing delicate about these roses. They're aggressive and hardy, reaching out to grab hold of anything that doesn't move. Even the color is a bright, bold, hot pink. No soothing pastels here. Their overgrown foliage hides secret lairs for wild cats who have created paths among the big, spiky thorns over the years. The air gets heavy with their strong, old fashioned scent. At their peak I can barely breathe yet I can't bare the thought of trimming them back.

At some point we will reach this area as we slowly reclaim this property. A decision will have to be made as to the fate of the old wash house. The building holds many family memories and should be restored but it's in terrible condition and may need to come down. It is so intertwined with the roses I'm not sure if either can be managed without destroying the other. I've often dreamed of turning it into a studio for me, something out of a magazine with beautiful french doors framed by glorious climbing roses. Until then, the wild nature of the roses is winning this war and for a few weeks each spring my vision comes to life.

Wishing you a Happy Pink Saturday!
