Feathered Friends Party ~ Frenchie and Momma Bird

Frenchie is probably my favorite bird. If a real bird were inclined to make a "home sweet home" in my living room Frenchie would be the perfect bird house!

I love her because she is one happy little plump chickadee. Sweet as can be. Her round little head makes me want to rub it like a Budah for good luck when I walk by. The detailed feathers of her wings and tail are tres chic! (Did I get that right prof en retraite? I never took French. Spanish was more practical living in California)

Look! She smiled when I brought in this scrolly wooden ball I found just today! I have to admit I've never been much of a fan of the all white look. It's starting to grow on me though so I may just have to find a spot to nourish this textural look along.

My next bird figurine is a bit more realistic, although I've never seen a mother bird and her babies playing on a teeter-totter. At first I just saw a fun, whimsical little knick-knack. I put her in the hutch of my desk to help lighten the mood when it's time to pay bills!

Slowly this little still-life began to take on more meaning to me. I began to see the look of concern in the mother's eyes. Was she just worried they would fall off or was there more to it? I was struck by her little foot, holding them up just a little longer. It seemed she was contemplating when to end the balancing act and fling them into the sky to try their wings.

Being children they seem to be frightened and excited at the same time. I began to see my own children in them. My son enjoys reminding me that when he is 18 he can move out and do what he wants. My daughter clings to me and says she is never leaving home. Like the birds on this teeter-totter we balance precariously between needing each other and needing our independence. And yet we still manage to have fun in the process!
