Rednesday ~ Rose Print

It's Rednesday at It's a Very Cherry World. Please visit our wonderful hostess Sue and see how a shot of beautiful red can brighten your day.

Roses in a shabby red frame.

Need I say more?

No, but you know I will so here's the story.
I was at Strawberry Saturday just to browse one day. I wasn't planning on buying anything. I was just killing time between running errands and picking up the kids. I walked in and Cheryl told me she got a new shipment of pictures in. She indicated they were stacked in the back as she hadn't priced them yet but I could look through them. I thanked her but walked the opposite direction, knowing my walls were full I was determined to avoid that pile. "I've got shabby roses this time", she added like it was an afterthought. Oh, she knows my weaknesses so well! As my mind was saying, "No, no, no..." my body did an about face and literally ran to the pile. This beauty was right on top, I'm sure she saw me coming and did it on purpose! I left with it and two others. I'm not a compulsive shopper, really I'm not, but when it's love at first sight you can't fight it. Right?

Rednesday and Thrifty Thursday

It's our last Rednesday before Valentine's Day so I'm sure our hostess Sue, at It's a Very Cherry World, and the other Rednesday participants will have lots of Red love to share! I've got a few Valentine decorations on my mantle and they were all thrifty finds so I'm also joining Leigh for Thrifty Thursday at Bloggeritaville.

I picked up a package of 12 vintage style Valentine cards at Ross for a dollar and some change. I'm afraid I was thinking LOVE and not thrifty so I don't remember the exact prices on some of these. The pug love shack was my favorite of the designs. You can just see the edge of the mosaic plaque that I posted about last Rednesday. I have it on a gold scrolly stand, of course! My green rooster from yesterday's post is also on the mantle and was from Big Lots a few years ago.

Here are some tins along with the footed flower bowl I shared on a previous Rednesday. Everything here came from Strawberry Saturday, my favorite thrift store. The small tins have hinged lids. They fit nicely in my kind of English Cottage living room.

I absolutely fell in love with this tin that looks like an open book. The pen and pocket watch are raised off the surface. The watch is scratched but I don't mind. I think I paid 3 or 4 dollars for it.

Finally, here is another romantic little vase with roses, butterflies and cherubs. It also was a few dollars. As often happens at Strawberry Saturday I go up to the counter with an arm load of stuff thinking I may have to put something back and then I'm surprised when the bill is much lower than I figured. Cheryl likes to keep her customers happy and coming back so she will often discount things. I never even try to bargain with her because her prices are so low to start with but she does it anyway! She is such a sweetie. I even saw her offer to deliver items to a lady in a wheel chair who had ridden the bus to the store and had too much to carry home.

If are ever in the Merced area make sure you stop by Strawberry Saturday on Yosemite Parkway and Marthella Ave. Along with her "gently used" items Cheryl also stocks items that follow the latest trends at cost to "class the place up" as she says. I didn't set out to do an ad here but most of these items came from S.S. and it really is a great place to dig for treasures. I mean that literally, she has a lot of stuff! Sorry for being so wordy today, didn't plan that either!

Thrifty Thursday

I know, I know, it's almost Friday! But I've got about 6 hours of Thrifty Thursday left here on the West Coast and I'm determined to make it this week. Poor Leigh, I keep telling her, "I'll see you Thursday" but haven't made it in few weeks, maybe several?! I found these dishes at Good Will several weeks ago.

This pretty little fall bowl was $2.00. You can see it on my mantel my fall header. It's a rich yellow with a brown design. It looks almost black and white here.

One thing I don't like about our local Good Will is that they write the price on in permanent ink. Do they all do that?

I got 4 of these cute plates with the little blue mini print for $1.00 each.

More blue and white, again for $1.00. I love the design on this one. It's a strange size, too small for a platter but not really a candy dish or desert plate. It's a reproduction and says dishwasher safe so I know it's meant to be used. I'll use it for decoration anyway but I'm curious about it.

That's it for today. Head on over to Bloggeritaville and say "hey" to Leigh. If you haven't read her story about how she met her husband click on the link below her profile to find it. It's soooooo romantic!

I won't have much time to visit for the next couple of days. I'll get around to everyone Monday. Have a great weekend!

REDnesday ~ Egg Cups to Match My Vintage Apron!

I was so tickled to find these egg cups at Strawberry Saturday.

They go so well with my vintage apron.

Had to rearrange my vintage corner to find a place for them.

It's amazing how well they go together.

Considering they were made about 60 years apart!

They even go well with the button at the top of this post! If you'd like to see more fabulous red things click on it to be whisked away to It's a Very Cherry World! Happy REDnesday!
